Evaluation
How can a student’s understanding of concepts, skills, or
events be quantified? This is the question that must be answered
before rubrics, grading criteria, and even grades themselves can be
created and assigned. And whose responsibility is it to determine
the standards which students are compared to? Should it be the
government, the local school board, I as the creator of this
WebQuest? Or should it be you, the teacher?
I, of course,
have made some suggestions (and I do indeed limit them to
suggestions) as to what students should do to complete this WebQuest.
And I have established an objective for students, that they would
gain an understanding and appreciation of the conflict in Darfur and
be challenged to do something about it. Beyond this, I take my seat
and leave it to you the teacher (the one who knows your students
best) to determine how you will evaluate and grade them.
